Exchange Visa (J1) is for those that travel through international exchange and can be obtained only with the help of organizations accredited by the US department of state. Check the following address for more information:

J1 nu este o viza de emigrare si se obtine in urma unui interviu la Ambasada SUA. Inainte de sustinerea interviului, trebuie sa completezi corect dosarul de aplicare.

Dosarul pentru ambasadaThe file for the embassy needs to contain:

  • Original passport;
  • Visa form DS 2019;
  • Application forms for visa DS 156, DS 158, DS 157 (only for male applicants);
  • Consular tax (100$);
  • Receipt that confirms the payment of SEVIS tax;
  • Student ID/ Transcript (up to date, with present signed grades);
  • Transcript (in a sealed envelope, that has the university stamp on it);
  • Paper proving that you are a student (other than the one needed at signing up);
  • Envelope type file;

This form represents the final stage of the application process and contains all the necessary data for the procuring of the visa. DS 2019 needs to be dated and signed by the holder and will be than attached to the file for the embassy. After you have obtained the visa, the form is sealed in an envelope by the consular official and stapled to the passport.
About DS-2019The DS-2019 form is the document through which you apply for the visa, and can be lift from the AE, after all the necessary documents for the application process have been handed in, and the cost of the program had been fully paid. DS 2019 is given by the American sponsor of the program, after the completion of the application and the acceptance in the program.
 
Very important The opening or tearing of the envelope is forbidden before the arrival in the US. This will be opened only by the official from the office of immigration, existent in the airport.

About SEVIS

SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) is a monitoring system for all the participants in the Work and Travel type programs, created by the US Government since 2003. Through this method of monitoring, every participant is obliged to provide the sponsor with the following information:
  • to confirm the starting of the program and to send the sponsor the addresses that can be found in the US (even if these are temporary addresses: hotel, or motel), after maximum of 20 days from the starting of the program (or the sign up date in the country of eligibility - DS-2019 from)
  • to announce the sponsor of any modification in the address, in a maximum of 10 days.
