Your duties will be simple, and you won't encounter any problems in fulfilling the requirements since your employer will provide training.
SUMMER VACATION PERIOD
American employers need you there starting June 15, and you'll be able to work until October 1. You no longer have the right to work beyond this date, but you can travel and visit for another 30 days starting from the "end date" on your DS 2019 form. During this period of time you can choose your departure and return dates whenever you want, but it's good to know that when the American students return to their studies in August, you might come across additional job opportunities: working over-time hours, or starting a second job. To make it easier to adapt, you should plan arrive in the United States in June. For the largest selection of jobs, apply to the program as soon as possible.
SALARY, TIPS, AND OVERTIME
While in the States you're treated the same as other citizens - Americans and all other nationals alike. Once you get there through the Work and Travel program, you'll enjoy the same legal rights as Americans. You can easily find a second part-time job. It is important for you to know that you are entitled to have as many jobs as you wish, and that you will have an hourly wage, tips, plus overtime compensation. Full-time work usually implies 40 hours per week. Employers are legally obliged to pay overtime to their employees that is 150% of their regular rate of pay, for any additional time worked.
FINDING A JOB?
There are several ways to get a job through the Work and Travel program. One of them would be to participate in a job shop (we will post more information on our site regarding time and location) that will allow you to meet your future employers. This would also be a good chance for you to have a detailed discussion with your potential employer in which you can emphasize your strengths related to your degree/major/profession, personal development, or skills
Most of the time, this face-to-face communication leads to an immediate job offer. You also have the option of choosing a job from the lists available at AE offices, or finding your own job, whether calling on friends in the States or searching on the internet. But be careful of fake job providers! Not only is this illegal, but you risk waking up without a job when you get there!!
