  • This year for the second time in the States

This year for the second time in the States

This year I've been for the second time in the States and I would return there anytime. I have been to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon; I have seen many beautiful and interesting things. I would recommend to students to apply to this program without hesitation and to fully take advantage of it, while they still can. This experience toughens you; you becomemore confident. It is a great experience. .

  • I lived just like an American for three months

I lived just like an American for three months

I LIVED JUST LIKE AN AMERICAN FOR 3 MONTHS June 28th: final exam…+ buy new socks, a backpack… June 29th: Bucharest – Milano – New York June 30th: Burlington – Vermont + meeting with the employer and other Romanians July 1st: Housekeeping training- I worked 2 weeks as a house keeper meanwhile, looking for a second job; on my third week I got my second job also in a hotel; I rented a car for $100/month….and from that point on ….FUN BEGAN!!! I traveled with my new rented car 2500 miles (4000km!), I met a Russian girl that became my girlfriend…I went to an exclusively roller coasters Fun Fair, hiked on the highest mountain in Vermont, bathe in the lake, ate traditional homemade apple-pie, enjoyed barbeques with Romanians and Moldavians, got good tips, delivered newspapers at 5 o’clock in the morning, bought myself sport shoes for no more than $23.95 a piece; I saw the Statue of Liberty, I walked on Broadway, I spent the night in a hotel on Broadway, took tons of pictures on Wall-Street and 5th Avenue; I sadly watched how much the World Trace Center was damaged; in Washington we hid between the trees so we can take pictures of the White House, I visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Obelisk, walked on Constitution Av, arrived to Niagara Fall after 9 hours of driving and listening, over and over again, to the same Metallica and Alice Cooper CD….and in the end of this long drive I flew with a balloon over the huge and noisy fall. It still can’t believe that I have lived all of this. I had a dream, I made it real, I directed my own movie in which I have loved and I’ve been loved back, I got drunk, I’ve done tons of shopping, read newspapers, went to libraries, waited at the stoplights, walked in parks, enjoyed my rented car as well as my rides to work on my bike. I LIVED JUST LIKE AN AMERICAN FOR 3 MONTHS Between the lines….this is what should be done while in US…..money and work come along together on the way if you have a well structured plan…..with one job, in 2 months and a half you can earn at least $3000.Accomodation + food + renting a car = $1000, so this leaves you with plenty of money to do what ever you please. September 22nd: highest peak in Vermont September 23rd: 6 a.m.-11:45 p.m.- visit around Washington September 24th-25th: 40 hours of New York….crazy fun….cars…..speed….chicks….luxury…beggars...sky scrapers…museums…Brancusi in its own special spot in the Metropolitan Museum of Art…. Spot lights night and day September 26th: 17 hours of walking on the streets of Milan, Rome September 27th: 23 hours of Venice September 28th: Milan + Bucharest I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR NEXT SUMMER!!! Hugs & kisses and I wish we can all meet on the streets of New York, or in that park from where you can see the famous statue…. Valentin…

  • I made friends with whom I keep in touch to this day

I made friends with whom I keep in touch to this day

I arrived in Yosemite National Park on May 13 2005, but… let’s start with the beginning. On my way to the park, when entering the Yosemite Valley I was continuously gaping and didn’t know where to turn my head to see all the things that surrounded me. I started to realize that the 10 months to come would be special. And I wasn’t wrong. I just couldn’t believe that I was to work in one of the most beautiful reservations on earth. I moved in and the second day I met my employer. I was a housekeeper at the houses where tourists were accommodated in Cuny Village. I was myself lodged in a house like that. The food was quite above my expectations, buffet, where you could eat until you burst. At the beginning I worked 35 hours/ week, afterwards in high- season I got more hours and weekends were off. You could say that there is not much to do in a reservation in your free time, but in Yosemite it is not at all like that. There are so many things to see that you need months to discover them all. The cascades, Vernal Fall, Brideveil Fall, or Yosemite Fall are splendid. We climbed: El Capitano, the peak of Half Dome and took pictures on the Vernal cascade or just took walks alone or made trips with the tourists on the Steam Train. I feel that this experience changed me, and I think this change was a positive one. The atmosphere there can’t be compared to anything. I made a lot of friends among my colleagues and visitors of the park, with whom I still keep in touch. I can truly say that the time I spent in Yosemite was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life and for this I thank the American Experience staff.
